When to use this spread

Nine cards in a grid. They are read not only individually but also across rows, columns, and diagonals, creating relationships a linear spread cannot show.

Why this spread

In a grid of nine cards there are no fixed positions, only axes. Every row, column and diagonal is a sentence, and one card takes part in several sentences at once. That is what lets you see connections a straight-line spread hides. Right when you want the full picture of a period rather than an answer to a defined question.

The positions and what each one means

  • Top row
    What is visible and conscious

  • Middle row
    The core and present

  • Bottom row
    What acts beneath the surface

  • Columns
Past · present · future across the grid

  • Center
The heart of the matter around which everything organizes

What sets it apart

Unlike the Celtic Cross, this spread is built around axes rather than fixed named positions — more visual and less prescriptive.

Originally associated with Lenormand and later adapted to tarot. It rewards readers who notice relationships between cards.
